…Let’s go deeper—Take it into your own hands

This principle not only applies to our everyday lives, but our spiritual lives. God wants us to examine what we believe. He has even given us the tools to do so.
2 Timothy 2:15: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” What Paul charged Timothy in 2 Timothy is his charge to us today. We each have the responsibility to find out what is in the Word, and also how to rightly divide it. We don’t need to read the Word to get man’s approval. We may sometimes be at odds with the general consensus of the day. But our ultimate approval comes from God. As long as He has OK’d it, nothing else matters.

Acts 17:11: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” This verse is describing those in the early church located in Berea. These were commended for their faithfulness in searching the scriptures to confirm what they heard. It says that they did readily listen to what they heard. But they were wise in that they made sure the scriptures contained what they heard.

Romans 8:26: “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Sometimes we don’t know what to do or what direction to take in a given situation. No matter what we do, or how hard we try, the right knowledge eludes. We do sometimes come to the end of human wisdom. That’s when God steps in for us. We may not even know how to pray about it. But God, through His Holy Spirit, intercedes for us and gives us the words to say and instructs us on how to pray in those times.

John 8:32: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” The thing about knowing the truth in anything is that it sets us free from whatever’s been holding us back. Whether it’s spiritually, financially, or physically, the truth breaks the shackles of falsehood. Now the freedom we have is because the truth has been made real in our lives.

1 John 2:15: “Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” Our love of the world often means the things and material possessions of the world. But I believe it can also mean this world system—this world’s way of doing things. These things are often backwards. It’s also something to watch out for. We can become so accustomed to the way of this world without realizing it. But if we pay attention, we can pick out these things that are errors in judgement. The areas that were once a mess, and out of control, we can take back into our own hands.
