…Let’s go deeper—Enemies attack when you’re at your weakest

As haphazard as the enemy of our souls might be, he has designs at play that our meant to overwhelm us. And He doesn’t usually attack when we are strong, but when we are weak.

1 Peter 5:8: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” Our enemy is looking for those whom he may devour. Who are those whom he may devour? Those who are weak—the ones that have allowed their defenses to be run down. That’s why this verse also instructs us to be sober and vigilant. We need to be aware of our enemy, but we also need to be aware of our defenses.

Micah 7:8: “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD [shall be] a light unto me.” Sometimes our enemy may think we are down and out. We look like we are too weak to fight back. They think they can deliver the final death blow. But they shouldn’t go by what it looks like, and neither should we. The reason is because God is there to help us. We shouldn’t be quick to give in. What we might fail to do on our own, God can make up the difference.

Matthew 4:1-2: “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.” At this point Jesus was at His weakest. You can bet that’s why the enemy attacked Him here. He had just fasted for forty days and forty nights. You can bet He was weak. But Jesus was able to withstand temptation. He used the Word to overcome His enemy.

Isaiah 40:31: “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.” When we are feeling weak, it’s important that we remember that God is still with us. This knowledge alone should help us remain strong. It should keep us from fear. He, and our faith in Him, is the great equalizer in all this. Sometimes we may go through a period of weakness. But that just means that we need to be still and quiet in Him and let Him recharge our batteries.
