While God knows we will fail from time to time, we should know that He’s always rooting for our success. And truth be told, I don’t think God is as concerned with our failures committed in good faith as we sometimes are. Much of our future success depends on us having some failures to learn from. I think we forget that at our own expense. It’s a heart that’s wanting to please Him and constantly seeking His will that’s His main concern.
Proverbs 24:16: “For a just [man] falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” The interesting thing about our failures is that they don’t have to define us. If we give up in the face of failure, we are letting it define us. But if we keep fighting past those failures—it’s inevitable: the successes will outweigh the failures. But mostly, the just man knows that He is destined for success because of the one who makes him successful.
2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Since God hasn’t given us the spirit of fear—if we find ourselves afraid—we know that it wasn’t from God. This fear of anticipation that plagues us sometimes is us painting our own dark picture without realizing it. We live in that dark painting that we created ourselves. But that’s not the environment God has provided for us. His is one of power, and love and of a sound mind. In Him there is no darkness; His painting is much brighter and much more hopeful. His has no anticipation of failure, but an anticipation of success.
2 Corinthians 5:7: “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)” Many of our decisions have to be made with imperfect knowledge. We don’t always know how they will turn out. It’s a path that requires a walk of faith. Since we can’t see all the obstacles in the road ahead, we have to trust that He does. And the obstacles that we can see—we can’t take those as impassable when God has declared a path through them.
Joshua 1:9: “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Much of our confidence isn’t rooted in ourselves; it’s rooted in God. Sometimes our fears and concerns over what we can’t do overshadow the possibilities of what God can. In order for the possibilities to emerge, we need to leave room for them to emerge. Our trust in God allow those possibilities that space.
1 Corinthians 2:5: “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” What many people have said you couldn’t do, you should know you can. What many have defined as the acceptable path, you should know it’s not always. And what looks to be wise in the moment can prove to be unwise in God’s timeline. But the important thing is to reject all the negative thinking and the negative talk—especially if it’s coming from yourself.
