Proverbs 17:22: “A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Enjoyment of life also has a health benefit to it. It actually strengthens us body, soul and spirit. I suppose that’s why God encourages us to be merry. He wants us to enjoy life, but it’s hard to enjoy if we’re not healthy. A merry heart and positive attitude have a reinforcing effect; we’re actually promoting more enjoyment of life just by enjoying life.
Psalms 16:11: “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore.” Notice, the path of life involves fullness of joy and pleasures for evermore. This sounds like a God-honoring path. God is trying to bring us to a place of completeness in Him. It’s not just the destination where we experience joy, but we are meant to experience joy on the path to the destination as well.

This unique quality of each day, itself, gives it a special value. You wonder, what can I do today that I didn’t do yesterday? What new opportunities will present themselves? Each day is a blank canvas on which to paint; that’s part of the value each new day holds. The reason to rejoice when we wake up each day is because we have the privilege of seeing how God will work in our lives and, maybe—through us—the lives of others.
Matthew 22:9: “Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.” God has, in fact, invited all of us to a party. It’s called the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. This parable of the marriage of the King’s son tells a story of invitation to the wedding feast. This invitation was extended to all, but we have to receive the invitation. Receiving this means receiving Christ as Lord and Savior. It’s open to all—this ultimate party. This is the ultimate way in which God is honored. In fact, it’s the only way in which He can be. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Honoring God begins by faith. As we take that first initial step, we find we are now fully able to enjoy the life He has given—as it was meant to be. It’s a new life—a life in Him.
