God has uniquely gifted each of us. He has placed each of us in unique positions. We all have something unique to offer and contribute. It’s here where we are fulfilling our purpose. It’s the sweet spot in life where function meets purpose and meaning.
1 Corinthians 10:31: “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” This central point is the crux of all things; that we are here to glorify God in all that we do. Those things done for selfish gain don’t fit under this category. But as we go about our daily activities we can make sure that our underlying purpose fits this definition. If we have a good gauge of our purpose and meaning, we can go about our day keeping this in mind.
1 Peter 2:9: “But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” As a believer, you’re chosen by God. He not only chose you as His own, but He chose you for a purpose. This purpose is common to everyone, but is uniquely expressed in each one. The light He has granted to each one of us is to be expressed and flow through each one of us. The way in which it happens may be unique to you, but that it does happen is what’s important.
Philippians 1:6: “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus Christ:” Once we begin our purpose, it’s easy to begin doubting ourselves, or begin doubting God. We wonder, will I be able to continue on, or will God stay with me throughout. This verse is the very expression of God’s heart on the matter. He wants us to know that what He has started in us, He is faithful to complete it. He also wants us to know that He’s not going to abandon us in the middle of it. He’s not going to leave us high and dry.
Romans 12:6: “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, [let us prophesy] according to the proportion of faith;” This verse only lists the gift of prophecy here, but goes on in following verses to list several other gifts as well. Beyond our physical abilities, God has also given each of His people spiritual gifts. These are each given for the benefit and edification of the body of Christ—the Church. The role we play can easily be diminished in our own minds, but I don’t think it’s diminished in the eyes of God. If He has given us each something to do, then I believe it’s something important. It may even seem small or insignificant, but I don’t think it is to God, and I don’t think it is to that other person it might help.
1 Peter 4:10: “As every man hath received the gift, [even so] minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” Do you know what your gift is? If you do, God is calling you to use it. If you don’t, then right now might be a good time to think about it. Right now might be a good time to seek God in how He has gifted you. It may even be something you just took for granted, or hadn’t considered before. But don’t discount the impact it can have. If you choose to use it, you could make all the difference—for someone else and, maybe, even for yourself.
