…Let’s go deeper—Appearing crazy doesn’t make you crazy

The term ‘crazy’ is somewhat subjective. Actually, it’s really subjective. People toss it around and apply it to people that don’t actually fit the definition. They just don’t fit their definition of normal. But what appears crazy isn’t always when you consider the context. And what God shows us is that we sometimes appear crazy to a world where we are out of context ourselves.

Romans 8:7: “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” This is why we sometimes appear crazy in a world that lives an entirely fleshly existence; it’s because we, as believers, don’t. We live according to a different paradigm. We live according to what we know and believe in our hearts. And we are led by the Spirit rather than walking in the flesh. It’s a higher life—one that those who choose the pleasures of the world can’t understand. It appears crazy because it’s two sets of people working towards different ends.

Romans 12:2: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Living according to a different paradigm also requires a different way of thinking. Once saved, if you continue to think the same way as the world you just came out of, you’ll end up becoming a part of it again. That’s why a new heart also requires a renewed mind. You have to actively engage in getting your mind to align with your spirit. If you think differently, then you’ll act differently, and that may appear crazy to some.

Proverbs: “My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:” God knows we’re going to be different from the world. In fact, He commands us to be. It’s not a concern about appearances, but a concern about where the path of the world leads. His way is the one which leads to life that is contrary to a world with it’s eyes fixed on only what is right in front of them, and doesn’t consider anything beyond the present. But the wise heart considers the path he’s on because considers where it leads and which path holds true fulfillment and joy.

Psalms 1:1: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Being different may not always be comfortable, but it does contain a blessing along with it. In fact, it’s a blessing bigger than any worldly existence can offer. It can be a lonely path at times because you have to separate yourself from those who don’t consider the path they’re on. But the blessings are there because it puts us in a position to be blessed by God.

John 15:9: “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” Being different can easily engender hatred. This is where appearing crazy can be the most difficult. No one likes being singled out. But you have to remember why the world hates someone who doesn’t live like they do. Partly, it reminds them that what they’re doing isn’t right. At times, they may want others to join them to maybe appease their own guilt. But mostly, people often hate what they don’t understand. Since they don’t see the world as you do, they’re not likely to understand you. And that’s what being labeled as crazy is often based on—a lack of understanding.
