…Let’s go deeper—If you’re going to possess the land, you’ve got to get up and move

I believe God is excited to make things available for us. I know from the whole of scripture that He delights when His people are blessed. But I also know that those things don’t always just happen. It requires something of us many times. And it’s when we have the boldness to stand and claim the land that we reap the fruits and blessings God has for us.

Joshua 18:3: “And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?” Many times we are like Joshua says: we are slack to possess the land. It’s there; we know it’s available, but we just never go out and get it. Maybe, sometimes, we don’t realize what’s available to us; other times it might be sheer laziness. Here, the lands were divided into lots according to each tribe. They had each been assigned a portion. But the land is available. They just needed to go claim their portion.

2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” It could be that we don’t take what God has for us because there are enemies facing us. This can cause fear, or reservation, or becoming deflated due to a perception that we can’t overcome. But this isn’t the perspective God lays out for us here. Paul declares to Timothy that God has given us a spirit of power, love and a sound mind; it’s not a fearful, frantic spirit that runs around wondering what they’re going to do. It’s one that has confidence in their God because they know what He can do.

Acts 1:8: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” What God commissions you to do, He also empowers you to do. He does this through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us wisdom we wouldn’t normally have, a knowledge we wouldn’t normally have, an assurance we wouldn’t normally have. This knowing in our hearts, even though we may not know it in our heads, is what gives us the edge we need to be successful for God and accomplish His will on the earth.

Revelation 12:11: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” The Saints overcoming is a big part of the picture of Revelation. The authority granted them is based on the redemptive power of the blood Jesus shed on the cross that quells the accusations of the enemy. He might throw fiery arrows of condemnation, but we know a higher authority than he. When God declares us righteous, it doesn’t matter what the devil says. We aren’t under his feet because he is under ours.

Joel 2:25: “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.” Even things that have been stolen from us—the time we lost to years of hardship or illness—God is able to restore to us. In a land where there was devastation, He can rejuvenate and bring to life again. Sometimes we just have to let God do what He does, like here, where He restores the land. But we actually have to be in the land so He can restore what was lost. The healing doesn’t always come on its own. But we’re a part of the process. When we claim what God has commanded, He takes over and does the rest.
