AV Galatians 5:1: “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” I think an important thing to remember is that God has called us to liberty. That, yes, God has set bounds for us to stay within as governors for our behavior. But within those bounds He has given us liberty. We shouldn’t be bound by legalism for one thing. Which is what this verse is talking about. But we also have a liberty which God has given us within the confines of His will. He still gives us choices and options.
AV John 16:13: “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” One of the ways we can know to do what is right is by the leading of the Holy Spirit. We can learn and become sensitive to His leading. When we do this it takes a lot of the torture out of making decisions. We may not know what to do. But if pay attention to His leading we can make the right decision.
AV James 1:5: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” God also lets us know we can ask Him for wisdom when we need it. He assures us that if we lack wisdom we can ask Him for it. He may not even tell us explicitly what to do. But He may just give us the wisdom so that we can know what to do.
AV Proverbs 3:6: “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” When we acknowledge Him He is willing to direct us. Acknowledging Him means that we acknowledge His lordship over our lives. We give Him the reins so that He can steer us in the right direction. And we do this in every situation of our lives. Not just when we don’t know what to do. We may have many situations where we know what we want to do. But we must be willing to say in those times, “Lord, what would you have me to do?”
AV Proverbs 16:9: “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” I think of this in terms of those times when we have the choice between two good options. God may give us the choice on what we want to do. And we go ahead and make a decision. But I believe in these times God is still helping us in making that decision. He lovingly guides us and directs us down the path, sometimes without us even realizing it.

Very good post Brad. I believe we have to pray before we make any decisions. We don’t always do that and sometimes we pay the price for that. It took me many years to get to that point. I know God honors our faithfulness. May the Lord bless you for all your hard work. Don
Thank you. We need to ask for God’s leading in our lives. And also it’s easy to forget about there being liberty within the realm of God’s will.
