Hebrews 4:2: “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it].” Something cannot begin to profit us until we truly believe it. Those who grabbed the word and placed in their hearts with faith were the ones who benefitted from it. Why? Because once it’s in their hearts they will truly live it. Until the gospel falls on fertile soil, it cannot grow and develop into a life that will bear fruit.
Revelation 2:4: “Nevertheless I have [somewhat] against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” Sometimes we know the truth, and we are going along just fine in living a consistent life. But then we get sidetracked or distracted by something else until we find ourselves living a life where our words don’t match our actions. That’s when we have left our first love. We start out with a love for the truth, but then for whatever reason, it’s no longer actively being lived. That’s when we need to regroup and get our beliefs properly aligned.
