…Let’s go deeper—Don’t let the culture eat your strategy

One thing about being a Christian—our strategy might not always line up with the world. And that’s OK. Our strategy should line up with God and His way of doing things. But we do need to be aware of our environment. Sometimes just being conscious of someone else’s perspective can be the difference in making an impact—and not.

Proverbs16:9: “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” Our plans may have the best of intentions, but they may still fail to work. All the metrics may suggest that it’s a ‘can’t fail’ strategy, but it just doesn’t pan out. God gives us the inside track when we ask Him. He gives us His wisdom. It may not make sense to us. But who cares, if it works. We know that His thoughts are not our thoughts, neither are our ways His ways.

1 Corinthians 9:19: “For though I be free from all [men], yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.” Paul was mindful of His audience. He was looking to the endgame. He wasn’t looking for a purpose to fulfill his strategy, He was looking for a strategy to fulfill his purpose. He found ways to communicate with people, while not compromising his message.

Philippians 4:11: “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, [therewith] to be content.” Sometimes we need to learn to adapt in just our attitude to our surroundings. It’s not necessarily a change in approach, but a change in perspective. But in having a proper perspective, it can also help us to come up with a proper strategy.

1 Corinthians 1:20: “Where [is] the wise? where [is] the scribe? where [is] the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?” One thing God is easily able to do is to make man’s wisdom look foolish. Mankind is really only wise in his own eyes. When our way isn’t working, it’s best to ask Him. We should really ask Him first, but we sometimes ask Him last. I think the more we grow, and grow wiser, we learn to not pursue our own ways first, but to pursue His ways first.

James 3:17: “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” In addition to being from God, the reason His wisdom works best is because it contains all of the above traits. Getting good results requires putting good into the situation. And using the wisdom from above is never a poor strategy.
