…Let’s go deeper—Half Measures

When God instructs us to do something, He instructs us to do it with our whole heart. God doesn’t believe in half measures either. Jesus displayed that when He was here on the Earth. He displayed it because He was committed to the cause and He knew how important that it is.

Luke 10:27: “And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.” What Jesus commanded us to do was to love God with all of our being. That is what is required. Maybe that’s what is required because He also knows what it will produce: Whole-hearted committed believers who are passionate about what they believe because they are passionate about God. He knows that this is contagious. When a person excited about God gets into contact with other people, that excitement can’t help but have an effect.

Colossians 3:23-24: “And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” The great thing about doing things with God in mind is that we are freed from the concern over what others think. We are no longer bound by that need to please people. We have a freedom to do what God has instructed us because that’s the predominate cause on our minds.

Galatians 6:4: “But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.” The thing we can’t escape is that while others can help us along the way, it’s up to us to maintain that excitement. We sometimes have to talk to ourselves to keep our energy up. Many times we just need to talk to God for Him to rejuvenate us. But the great thing is that when we do this we can have the comfort of knowing that we’ve done what we needed to do to promote the cause of Christ.

2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, I have kept the faith:” Paul was able to say this nearing the end of his journey because he didn’t believe in half measures either. He knew the value of giving it all the effort he had. He knew that that’s what his commission would call for. He knew that it would call for this because of the importance of the cause. And he knew that, in the end, the full effort and devotion he gave would be well worth the cost.
