In seeking God, we need to make our adherence to the truth of utmost importance. Since we know there is only one truth, then there can be a multitude of errors. That makes truth a precious thing. The fruits of wisdom will eventually bear good fruit in our lives. When we use wisdom, it will bring about positive results. And in that, we see that truth is a natural outgrowth of itself.
Psalms 119:97: “O how love I thy law! it [is] my meditation all the day.” This verse could make one wonder: why would someone love the law? Well, with the Laws of God come about certain positive results. The interesting thing is that the following verses go on to illustrate those results. It talks about how knowing and loving the Law brings about wisdom, understanding, keeping us from every false way, a hatred of evil, and a love for the truth. The knowledge and love of the truth has inherent in it certain benefits.
John 16:13: “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” Another guide for us in finding the truth is the Holy Spirit. When we have the Holy Spirit residing within us, He guides us and directs us into all truth through our inner witness. He gives us the ability to discern truth from error. We don’t have to feel confused and overwhelmed by all the possibilities. It doesn’t matter how much information we have thrown at us, we have the advantage of the Holy Spirit to guide us.
