…Let’s go deeper—Convey your message plainly

Sometimes it can be tough to boil things down to their most basic terms. But that’s sometimes what it takes to get the message across. God has made the Gospel message so easy that a child can understand it. We can sometimes—through tactics and maneuvering—make it too complicated. In complicating it, we forget that it’s not our job to convince, but it’s our job to just convey the message.

Proverbs 4:7: “Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” God calls us all to gain wisdom. The thing with wisdom is—if we have it first—we are in a position to gain understanding. Wisdom allows us to know when we should just sit and listen—when we should just humble ourselves and be quiet. Then, if we are discerning, we can gain the understanding that is crucial in our pursuit of truth.

1 Corinthians 1:21: “For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” My presentation of the Gospel can seem like foolishness to many. They don’t have to listen to me. They could easily dismiss me. But even in this, they still can’t say they never heard it. They still heard a presentation of the truth even though it was delivered through an imperfect vessel.

2 Timothy 3:16: “All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” In all our argumentation, we can easily forget to just present them with the Word. God’s word has the power to cut to the heart. Hebrews 4:12 says that it’s ‘quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword’. And here, in 2 Timothy 3:16, it says it’s ‘profitable for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness’. This guide—this roadmap for life—if we just present it, we can let them make the decision and allow God to draw them to Himself.

John 6:44: “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” In our interactions with non-believers we can never dismiss God’s part in all this. God shows them through the Holy Spirit and begins to opens their eyes. He shows them the truth and brings them to a full understanding of themselves and God. We don’t need to convince—it’s God’s job to dispel the darkness and present the light.

Isaiah 1:18: “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” In all our excuses and refutations we might try to make against truth, God calls us to come and reason with Him. He’s making a call to all of us to purify our lives by bringing the impurities before Him. He’s looking for us to make an honest accounting of ourselves to Him—not to present the case as we want it to be—but to just present it as it really is.
