God calls us higher simply because He believes more of us than seeing us as victims. In His eyes, we are as stated in His word—more than conquerors. While God believes this of us, we have to claim this mantle as our own; it doesn’t just fall on us. The victory we walk in is waiting for us, but we do have to walk in it.

Paul’s message to the churches was often an upbeat encouraging word. His belief was based in the confidence he had in the God we serve. His trials and troubles were proof. He experienced mistreatment, and had many trials, but never fell into the victim mentality. He kept looking and believed that he would see God come through for him. What His story shows is that God is faithful, and what He tells us to conquer He also helps us to conquer.
Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” If we’re going to conquer, we need to believe that victory is a part of our future. Faith is believing in what hasn’t yet happened. We just see ourselves as having the victory before we ever join the battle. The battle is over before it ever begins, but it’s only because we believe God has made a way for us. We can’t grab hold of this victory if we still see ourselves as victims. It requires and demands of us that we let go of that thinking.
Revelation 3:21: “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” Overcoming is a common theme that runs throughout the Bible. It’s meant to be the theme of our lives. When we see that our victory is in Him then we don’t take it all on ourselves—the responsibility, nor the credit. It’s a daily act of living with confidence in Him and what He has said. We don’t shrink back from the fight because we are just walking in the victory He has already given. Our overcoming of sin and the power of the enemy leads to our ultimate victory celebration in Heaven. It’s the celebration for conquerors who made no room for the victim mentality.
