…Let’s go deeper—Trust doesn’t just happen

The trust we place in people also applies to how we trust God. We learn to trust Him as we get to know Him better. The only difference is that people will let us down, but God never will. He is worthy of our trust.

AV Psalms 34:8: “O taste and see that the LORD [is] good: blessed [is] the man [that] trusteth in him.” God knows we aren’t always easily trusting. I think this verse shows that understanding by God. He understands that we may have trouble trusting Him at first. He just asks us to ‘taste and see that He is good’. For some of us this is difficult because of the people we trusted in the past. They let us down at some point and we got hurt. We can wrongly believe that God is the same way. But God doesn’t’ operate the same way as people do.

AV Psalms 9:10: “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” This is the statement of a person who trusts God. Why do they trust Him? Well, it says because they know Him and His name. They know that He is trustworthy. Just like we learned to trust certain people in our lives once we got to know them, we trust God in the same way. This Psalm shows us that to know him is to trust Him. We learn of Him and His ways. And we know that He won’t forsake those who seek Him.

AV Psalms 37:5: “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring [it] to pass.” When we commit our ways to the Lord and place our trust in Him, we will see Him act in our lives. We will see Him bring things to pass in our lives that we have trusted to His care. This is also how we learn of Him and His trustworthiness.

David knew this when he faced Goliath. AV 1 Samuel 17:37: “David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.” He saw God deliver Him in tough circumstances before. And he knew God would do it again. He learned confidence and trust in God through experience.

AV Romans 5:3-4: “And not only [so], but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:” What we learn in our trials of life is that our patient waiting on God allows Him to work in our lives. When we patiently wait, trusting Him, we learn gain experience of God’s faithfulness. And when we experience God’s faithfulness, this gives us hope for our future.
