Have you ever wondered why certain things happen the way they do? You may have a series of bad event happen in your life. Or, you may have a series of the same bad events happen in your life.

Have you ever been late for work and it seems like you hit every red light on the way there? Then on the days when you’re not late it seems like the lights willingly turn green for you. These are frustrating things for sure. I understand that everything is not going to go your way all the time. The thing that’s hard to understand is how such a series of events can happen to make it seem like the world has a vendetta against you. You end up thinking, “What are the odds?” It’s like winning the lottery, only in reverse.

I recently had my mirror broken off of my car while parked in front of my house. That wouldn’t be so bad except for the fact that it’s the third time it’s happened since I’ve lived here. Some days the way things happen make you wonder about your odds of getting struck by a comet and lightning on the same day. How do these things just happen? I have some air travel stories that, I’m sure, would put many others to shame. The tendency is to think that someone has it in for you. You want to think maybe the airline is out to get me. Or, maybe bad customer service is their goal. No, I know that they’re trying the best they can. They have their own calamity to deal with. They can’t change the weather, or help random mechanical issues.

Sometimes it’s easy to think that events are conspiring against you. Most of the time, however, I’m sure these are just random things that happen. Even though they may seem odd or unusual, they’re just a part of us daily living our life.

Sometimes, though, maybe our answer is being delayed for this reason.

AV James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Sometimes we might need to resist the devil right back. Our prayers might have to involve some resistance of our own. God has given us great potential to effect change through our prayers. We just need to remember the impact we can have according to God’s word.
