Do you need an answer to a problem? We all seem to have times where we have a problem and the answer seems to elude us. And many times it just takes persistence to find the answer we’re looking for.
On many occasions I have needed answers to my own problems. And they didn’t often just magically appear. I had to do some legwork to find the answer I needed to the problem.
Sometimes I had to ask people I respect for advice. We may have difficulty in knowing how to handle a situation. We may have trouble with a relationship. This is when the advice of a friend or a parent can be helpful. Sometimes we may even need to seek a professional counselor. They can sometimes help us to sort out the issue and get to the root cause. The reason we sometimes need outside help is because we can run into some complex problems. They may require a solution that may not be apparent to us at first. This is why getting an outside perspective can be helpful. Others can see things from a fresh view. And they may see things that we sometimes don’t. And this can be especially true in relationships. When we are the ones in the relationship having problems, we lose objectivity. The reason is because we are so emotionally involved in it. And emotions can easily cloud our judgement. So, we shouldn’t be afraid to ask for wise counsel.
Sometimes tenacity is the key. We just haven’t found the correct answer because we haven’t looked hard enough. Think about it this way. Every problem in the world has a solution. It’s just a matter of finding it. There are answers to every problem we face. If no one knows the answer, it just means that no one has found it yet. Many inventors discovered this reality through much pain and toil. They were looking for a way to solve a problem. And it took a lot of trial and error before they found the right answer. But the ones who stuck with it eventually found the answer they were looking for. That’s why we shouldn’t give up when looking for an answer. We may even be really close to finding it and not realize it. That’s why persistence is important.
I guess the real question is, “How bad do you want to know the answer?” Some things we just want to know out of curiosity. In those instances, the answer probably isn’t that important. But then there are times when we badly need an answer to our problem. Maybe it’s a health problem, a finance problem, or a relationship problem. This is when we need to make a quality decision that we are going to find a solution. Many times our persistence will pay off if we don’t give up. Don’t go by what you see. Just go with the knowledge that there is an answer out there.
First and foremost, finding the answer to our problems should involve us seeking God. We need to involve Him in our daily decision-making. Because He knows it all. We don’t. That’s the great comfort—that we can ask Him for answers when we don’t know.
AV Proverbs 8:17: “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” God appreciates those that seek Him. But what does it mean to seek Him early? Well, what God really wants is for us to seek Him first. We need to train ourselves to make our first reaction to ask Him when we run into difficulty. When we make this our first reaction, we are setting ourselves up for success.
AV Galatians 6:9: “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Being discouraged when we don’t see results from our searching can become an easy thing to do. We have to continually remind ourselves that when we continue to seek Him, He will respond to us. He’s not trying to make things difficult for us. But He wants to foster a dependence on Him. And that dependence is the key to our success. Otherwise, we will start to depend on ourselves and end up in a mess. But that dependence partly happens by us continually seeking Him.

We know God wants us to ask Him for things. What God wants is for us to seek Him. And not seek Him for those things, but seek His face. Seek to really know Him. And then we need to be persistent. We need to keep knocking until He reveals the answer to us.
AV Psalms 119:2: “Blessed [are] they that keep his testimonies, [and that] seek him with the whole heart.” Notice that keeping His testimonies goes hand-in-hand with seeking Him. We are blessed when we keep His testimonies and seek Him with the whole heart. God wants an obedient and willing heart. If we’re holding back part of our heart, we need to let go of it. We need to release and yield it to Him.
AV Isaiah 59:2: “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.” This goes along with verse Psalms 119:2,but goes further. Sometimes we can have unrepented sin in our lives. This can keep us from receiving from Him, or receiving the answer we want from Him. That’s when we need to examine our hearts, and also ask Him to show us anything in our hearts that isn’t right. Then we can confess it to Him. This opens the communication lines again. So, now He will hear us and we can freely receive from Him.
