Purpose gives meaning

Purpose is an important element of life. I don’t know how many people know their purpose, or even believe they have a purpose. Some may have wondered what their purpose is but have given up on trying to discover it.

Purpose is a part of something that helps make you feel valuable. When you know you have a place in the grand scheme of things you are more mindful of what you’re doing. You’re not wandering around aimlessly through life. I would guess that’s why so many people are wandering around aimlessly through life. They don’t have a purpose, or know what it is. This makes finding it out even more important.

Often times this lines up with what they are passionate about. It also goes along with areas where they are gifted. Many times we’re fighting against our purpose because we’re doing something that doesn’t fit either of those two criteria. I think it’s a part of knowing yourself as well. You have to know if some career you choose is going to be something you can see yourself doing for 40 years. Some are gifted designers. So, they pursue a career in some type of design. They are able to envision something in their minds and then bring it into being. Architects and interior designers have this ability. Others are really good with numbers. These people might end up as accountants or mathematicians. They most likely enjoy what they are doing because they are good at these things. And the rest of us can be glad that they are good at these things because if we had to do their jobs…..well, the results would just be less than favorable. We would end up with some really messed up buildings and some really messed up finances.

The great thing is, that once we start to step into our purpose, it starts to just flow. It just comes naturally because it’s a natural extension of who we are. And you don’t have to fight to make it work. I think sometimes we are trying to be good at something we were never meant to do. It’s a fight and struggle. And it shouldn’t be that way. I mean, it will be a challenge, but it won’t be an overbearing task. Those natural gifts and talents will just kick in and the pieces will start to fit.

The idea that we all are gifted at something points to something else. These gifts had to come from somewhere. We didn’t just decide to be gifted. I believe that these abilities were given to us and that they were given to us so we would have purpose and meaning. Otherwise, we do wander around aimlessly. But once we know we start to feel valuable. We feel valuable because we know we have a purpose. And purpose gives us meaning.

…Let’s go deeper

You have a divine purpose. There isn’t just a something you were gifted to do as an everyday career. There is also a purpose you have in the divine work of God. We, as members of His body, are to fill different roles in fulfilling His plan here on earth. But we have to choose to accept and take on that role in our lives.

AV Romans 12:2: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Part of our fulfilling the roles God has planned for us involves renewing our mind. The way we renew our mind is by getting our minds in line with the Word of God. We have to fight to keep our thinking in line with what is right. We have too many things trying to get our minds going in the wrong direction. When we get our thinking in line with God’s thinking we will face opposition, but we will know that we are on the right path and then we can start fulfilling His purpose.

AV Matthew 6:33: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” This verse is talking about some of the things we tend to worry about. We can wonder sometimes where our food or clothing are going to come from. God’s clear answer to us is, “Seek me first and I’ll take care of all these other things.” We tend to think our purpose is to go to work and make a living But, no, our purpose is to fulfill His purposes.

AV Colossians 3:23: “And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” When we do things, it also matters why we do them. Our motives should always be with having the Lord in mind. We easily fall into the trap of trying to please people. But pleasing God and pleasing people can often work at cross purposes. We need to please God and not people. when we act with the motive of pleasing God, He is pleased by it and we can also know that we are doing it for the right reasons. We can also know if what we’re doing is right. Because if we can’t do it as unto the Lord, then we shouldn’t be doing it.

AV Philippians 3:10: “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” Our purpose should be God’s purpose. And God’s purpose for us is to be changed into the image of Christ. Knowing Him and, once we are saved, we experience the power of His resurrection, we then fellowship in His sufferings as we suffer for His cause, and we are made conformable unto death as we die to ourselves so that we can become conformed to His image.

AV Psalms 138:8: “The LORD will perfect [that which] concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, [endureth] for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.” When we choose to commit ourselves to Christ, God will bring us to perfection and continue to make us godly. The work of the Holy Spirit helps in this matter. We get cleaned up and growed up in Him. This brings us to our ultimate purpose—His purpose for us. And this is the true purpose that gives us true meaning. God is looking to make more sons and daughters that our conformed to the image of His dear Son.
